Finding creative activities for children in Haarlem is not always straightforward. At ArtStart we offer Kids' Pottery Classes that are both fun and genuinely educational — and we think they stand out for a few reasons.

Children work with their hands from the very first lesson. They learn real techniques — coiling, slabbing, pinching — and they decorate their work with underglaze and glaze. Every child completes the full cycle: from a raw piece of clay to a finished, fired artwork. They see the glaze transform in the kiln.

Throughout the half-term, children work on 2–3 projects. One project is chosen by the teacher with a clear educational goal — building specific skills step by step. For the other, children choose their own direction and execute it themselves. Even within a single theme we offer a wide range of examples and options, so every child finds an approach that feels like their own. Every project is guided and supported by the teacher throughout.

We are proud of what our students make. Process matters, but so does the result. We want every child to hold a finished, well-executed piece and see exactly how much they have progressed.

We offer two groups: Thursday and Saturday.

• Each lesson lasts 1,5 hour.

• For children aged 7 and older, with a minimum commitment of one half-term (6-8 consecutive lessons)

• The maximum class size of the group is 8 children.

• You can always request a trial lesson, the cost of the trial lesson in both groups is €27,5.

Items from each session need to be fired in our kiln so pieces will be received by our students within 4 weeks after the class. Please note we can only store pots for 4 weeks once they are ready.​
